Another 41.1 from Harbor Sailboat Charters runs into the Midway. This is two in a year. I've chartered from them and they are a solid outfit. Bet their skipper's briefing now includes a no-fly zone around the carrier.

Could this be another incident with the skipper’s focus in the cockpit watching the pretty gauges and fancy displays while ignoring the “GREAT BIG GREY SHIP” looming above his tiny boat?

Credit Card Skipper: ‘ Not my fault. It didn’t show up on the plotter ‘

But based on the picture he was sailing. Obviously the right of way boat!

(Sarcastic, in case it's not clear)

In the mid 60’s she would visit San Diego Harbor. I’d be goofing around in a 14ft Lido or a 22ft Capri criss crossing the bay and when the Midway steamed in she would consume the bay. Always fun to see her come in with the crew on deck.

I expect the Midway would be a vessel constrained by her Draft and so would have the right of way over our sailing vessels. And of course there is always the BST rule. Smaller vessels should always steer clear of any Big Steel Things, even if they do have the right of way.

You do understand that the Midway is decommissioned and permanently moored to the side of navy Pier? ;^)

That only makes it an easier target.
Perhaps they need a bigger “exclusion Zone”..
As far as I can remember, there is no practical zone at all. We sailed fairly close in December and no one batted an eye. Unlike the flat-tops across the bay, where even appearing like you want to get too close draws immediate attention.

Jackdaw,

yes, I knew she has been docked for quite some time. Visited her a few years back. Not sure how a even a CCC could get close enough to do the damage shown. There just isn't anything too see when you get that close except a big grey wall. the best few is several hundred yards away.

Docked is a bit of an understatement, she's welded to the wall! ;^) But to your point, the two boat hit the bull-horn structures that stick out from the bow designed to catch launch bridles on older jets. Seemed that wanted a close-in look. They got it!

It would seem that autocorrect has become your worst enema. :cowbell:
LOL indeed. It’s either autocorrect or Siri. Or the new keyboard I got for my Linux machine. Cannot get used to it!

The charterer's bill on that one will be the insurance policy deductible, typically of 1% of the vessel's value. So, likely, $3K to $4K assuming no violations of damage "contingencies" which could make it more. The skipper will need that CC.
