Back in the 60’s when I was surfing some guys referred to the wave as the Big Kahuna...
Always sitting beyond the break in anticipation to catch that one wave.
Lucky a couple of times. Found the curl...

We called those "outsiders" and paddled like mad to get to them, or beyond them. :yikes:

Here you go. Trying to get outside the break...

Possible head on. Not a chance beam on.

Did not say it was a smart attempt. It looks like someone is trying to go into the hatch while they hit the second wave. Not my idea of fun. Guess he felt he really needed to get out of Honolulu.
Reminds me of the exodus from SF Bay during the movie San Andreas.

Like others I transited that area about 2:00 that Sunday. It wasn’t rough, but you do get big wakes as the big ships are transiting that area. Rogue Wave?? Tough to say, but rips and wakes are more likely. To me a Duckworth is a river/lake boat, I’ve seen lots of inappropriate boats out there, worst was an aquacar, if it had more than 3” of freeboard I’d be surprised.
