I’ve a Yamaha 33’, and was curious about the difficulty of replacing the stock 2GM with a 3GMD. Can the engine bay incorporate the larger engine?
Kamp,
Mine has a 3GM30F. Can't say it's roomy but it fits. Access to the lift pump and secondary strainer is a PITA but doable.
Mike
Yes. Except the motor mounts will not match up because the motor is longer/wider. That means shorter shaft or longer stringers and that means you might need additional clearance on the forward/back end maybe both. Do you have the space? Perhaps the width is different so the stringers will be too narrow. Also likely the height will not match either. These all need to match up otherwise one cannot align the shaft to the motor to say nothing of a solid motor mounting structure. Remember the shaft pushes on the motor, thence on the motor mounts, which pushes or pulls the boat so these things need to be paid attention to.I’ve a Yamaha 33’, and was curious about the difficulty of replacing the stock 2GM with a 3GMD. Cheers mate. One thing I would look at is "Parts available 3GMF". Yes, more and more parts are going, going.. gone! Yes, you can find them but at a very steep price if you noticed for the 2GM series. So if, you have your mind set on doing it make sure you use THE new brand footing and not the old style or original series. 100,150,75 etc. Just take your time and talk around on parts too. Good, then you have some ideas about what you are going to face down the line $$$. One suggestion here is above all purchase a complete set of gaskets and rings for that engine to keep. when you use one just replace it this way you'll be able to shop around at your leisure and you will SAVE $$$$Cheers mate.
I shop on eBay and Craigslist for most of my 2GM parts, so that takes some of the stings out of ownership. Hopefully, it’ll be the same with the 3.
Thank you for the footing info.
Mike nice pic's Thank You. Looking at yours and the rusty, you're going to need some yourself. Keep an eye on them.Hopefully these help.
