CERTIFICATE OF DOCUMENTATION APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL

Beginning January 1, 2019, recreational Certificate of Documentation (COD) holders may elect to extend the expiration date of renewed CODs for an additional 2-5 years during the implementation period designated as January 1, 2019-December 31, 2021.*

Beginning January 1, 2022, recreational CODs will be issued for a validity period of 5 years.

So I am doing it for 5 Years now!

Updated info.

To pay for more than just one year, you must complete a special USCG Credit Card application form.
I paid for just one year for now by Pay.gov , waiting for next year renewal.

The Pay.gov would only accept one year for now.

They will catch up with their payment form technology by then.

You can pay for 5 years by Money Order or Personal check if you Annotate them correctly, per the USCG.

Maybe if it's a deal... 5 yrs $100.00. Less work for them should have some savings.. AND if there is a chance that you might sell/trade your boat, you can forget any credit toward the next boat. Lose your boat to... whatever, NO REFUND on unused portion. Year to year for me...

When you have a revenue stream of $8 million from fees and a staff of 18 with a 40 to 80- day back log... your fraction of $130 left from a overpayment doesn't have much of a priority to the operation. They have lived in the "We get X$ in and we staff to that number. We get the work done as it comes in." They were required by Congress to increase the length of the renewal period. This has them in a fluster. What will they do with the overage if everyone starts doing 5 years... How will we survive in year 2-5? Interesting read.

The COD is basically a title search.
I asked my Buyer Broker was it worth to full documentation processing fees.

Ans: Heck yes!!!

Chain of ownership and even insurance claims are part of this picture.

So COD's are not just a "rubber stamp". Try selling your boat outside the USA.
