One of my best investments. Here it is in action one lazy afternoon last summer.
If only we could sail that close to the wind!

Spent the last two weeks outing on the 4th coat of Epifanes High Gloss Varnish. Only 4 to go... can only do it early morning (done before 8:30) or late afternoon, varying with the shady end of the boat, so the sun isn’t beating down on it. I should probably build up coats on the port side now while the sun is south of us, and wait until after mid May to do the starboard side when the sun is north of us...

Picked up my main from the sailmaker. I had a slug that came off and a batten pocket that needed repair. He also did a general inspection of the sails condition and declared it in "pretty good shape" and not blown out. A little peace of mind for $119. Now I'm getting ready for 4-8" of snow tomorrow.....

I’m still debating whether to replace my rotted out canvas cover (lasted 12 years), or to continue shrink wrapping. I kept what is left of the old cover so that it could be used as a pattern because I liked the way it fit.
My canvas was easy to put on and remove even though it was one piece. I would put it aboard before the boat was hauled out so that I didn’t have to carry it up a ladder on the hard. I used the boom with the end supported as the ridge pole, and a 2x6 forward of the mast from boom height to the deck at the bow. It only took about an hour to install.
The down side was having to store the canvas over the summer. The downside of the shrinkwrap
is the annual cost and the wasted plastic that ends up in a landfill each year.

For the annual cost difference you can probably rent a small storage facility. During the summer, store the canvass, during the winter the sails.

Update, decided to get Maia's bottom done and we are totally redoing the brightwork, so we've moved her inside to a nice warm bay @ our boatyard. The bottom gets done Thursday.

I'm jealous, Nat. Xmas has never been indoors, as my charge at least. :)

In Annapolis, the marinas take the shirink-wrap to recycle.
The yards tell us they recycle shrink wrap around here too. I don't know what that really means. But I think they charge for the service (It isn't optional.)

Last I checked her cover is still attached. That's what I tell my wife, but I just like going to look at her.

Not to bad. I was in just a poly fleece pull over until we got to Point Robinson on Vashon then it blew at 22 with 2-3ft swells. Wore my foully from that point on. This was a week ago yesterday.

Hola Amigos! Eileen & I are in Stuart, FL until the end of February. Today we joined the sailing group for a short term membership at United States Sailing Center Martin County in Jensen Beach. Very friendly people who accept volunteers and will offer sailboats to members following a small fee and a short "show me you can sail" activity. We spent about 1 1/2 hours on the water sailing a Flying Scot. Good fun! We plan to do it again several times before the end of the month. I plan to volunteer to help with parking during a regatta they will hold on the 16th & 17th. Recently, Eileen has painted boats there and two views of the main building.

I'll check it out. I'm moving there in March. Where is the Sailing Center?
