I have a leak on my Pearson 28 where the mast goes through the deck. I was going to use self amalgamating tape with a hose clamp on the mast to make a boot. Is this the best way? Any favorite products? Any better options?

I use mast boot tape (4" wide) over my rubber boot with clamps - does a good job of keeping water out. You will need to replace the tape every couple of seasons.

solution depens on your plans to remove mast, if You plan not to do it at all, use good sealant insted of boot, just secure mast in center. if you have to remove it in future, just cut it.

It just is not that hard to make a proper mast boot and it will last quite a while. I have no doubt that you can find a template online and have someone who sews do it up in a few minutes. It will look so much better than some tape and a hose clamp or a bunch of caulking.

I've used a product called Spartite on my previous two boats. Follow the directions and your cabin will never have a leak. (from this area at least)
