I have a 1991 Hunter 28. The upper spreader port side is loose. I have been told there are some stress cracks. Is this a concern? Is it repairable? Who made the original Mast?

Different model here, but Hunter installed an Isomat on our 1991, likely yours is, too. Check out the link to determine whether that is the case with your boat. http://rigrite.com/Spars/Isomat_Spars/ISOMAT_Main.php
It's most likely a cracked spreader bracket. It's not safe to sail with a cracked or broken bracket... I would suggest contacting someone like www.rigrite.com for their advice and a source for a new bracket..
Look for sticker on the mast. Also a photo would help. It also could be a Z Spar mast. Photos do help
