Thanks guys, I knew about the locking pin, I was hoping there was something else I could do because as you know when you have to reef the conditions are dicy and going up to the mast locking the pin and then coming back to the cockpit and if you have to reef even more you have to repeat the process.
Staying in the cockpit is rough seas is a good thing.
I can clamp down or belay the Furling and Outhaul lines from the cockpit.
If you can't, I would also suggest Belaying both those lines, clockwise on a nearby winch, from within the cockpit.
I rap the 2 furling lines around the winch real tight and used this way in very high winds and have the problems.
I have never locked the winch up at the mast and if this does not work check for slippage from
worn furling line.
