Something like that happened during the Vendee Globe a couple of years ago. The boat hit a shipping container and threw the skipper, who was asleep in the stern, all the way to the front of the boat. It severely damaged the hull but it did not sink.

At 9:11, Comanche is motoring out. That surprised me. At 2:39, the bottom is visible. I see no prop. I guess the prop is deployed through the transom? Can anybody explain the why, what and how of motoring Comanche?

Is that prop driven by an electric motor?

Why does a craft that was built to be a super-fast sailboat carry the weight of motor, batteries or fuel, and propeller mechanism?

Diesel. It’s a 100 foot boat. It needs a real motor. The weight of the motor is negligible for its length . The boats halyards probably weigh more.

That boat even has a carbon fiber toilet. Its CF everything on the inside. Pretty amazing.
