Mac 25 pop top gas spring mod

I'm adding gas springs to assist in lifting the pop top on my 1985 Mac 25. Can anyone who has done this mod tell me what they used to secure the spring mounting plates to the fiberglass?
The mounting holes in the plates I have can fit # 10 or M5 screws but I think an appropriately-sized small bolt and nylock nut might be more durable. Your thoughts, please.

Absolutely use bolts/nuts. screws would not be safe with such a heavy pop top.
Best mod ever BTW. you'll love it!
