Glenn,

When you do a design, do you normally do the VPP or polars as part of the process? I have competed with two Hunters (320 & 356), and would be interested in knowing if they are reaching speeds that they were designed to achieve at various speeds and wind angles.

I have noticed that Hunters don't have very good PHRF ratings when compared to similar boats such as a Catalina. Do you have a rating in mind for a boat as part of it's design?

Steve,

I use polars as a comparative analysis tool when designing. Having a rating in mind would mean I could read minds. Since PHRF is totally subjective, I took that concern off my list a long time ago as a committee thinks that one out. I think the PHRF people do a pretty good job overall so I just tried to make the boats fast.
