85 Catalina 30 univ. m25. did some major work on the engine such as new motor mounts, new trans, cleaned out heat exchanger and new exhaust riser. now the engine won't get up to temp it sits at about 140 and take a long time to get to that temp. pulled the thermostat and it seems to work opening at 160. any ideas

Get a thermostat that will address the temperature of your engine. Checkk out the manual for the correct unit.

May never reach full operating temperature unless it is under load. Also, if there is a water heater involved, that will act as a heat sink and slow the engine's temperature climb.

You might check the coolant plumbing. If I recall there's a thermostat bypass hose, if this isn't connected to the correct thing you could be just bypassing the thermostat altogether. It's a long shot, but worth looking in to. Of course, my recollection could be incorrect, too.

Already asked but again: under load at cruising rpm? (2500-2800, WOT is 3000).
