I have a 1983 Catalina 30 and am thinking of installing a Signet SL 172 Depth Sounder. The Installation Manual states that the transducer should be installed in the centerline of the boat forward of the keel pointing straight down. As best as I can determine there is no forward location in which there is access to the bilge. On the other hand, I have a old transducer hole offset approximately 2 feet from the keel mid-ship. I understand that the transducer sends out a signal in a 30 degree angle. I am a little concerned that the keel will interfere with the signal or that installing it 15% out of plumb will effect the reading. Anyone have experience with this issue and where is your transducer mounted on your Catalina 30.
