"DOW CORNING® 791 SILICONE WEATHERPROOFING SEALANT"

With apologies to Stu:
Do NOT, ever, use SILICONE on your boat. It is a massive WASTE OF MATERIALS. Why would you want a MASSIVE WASTE OF MATERIALS THAT MAKES A MESS OF your chainplates AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD PUT IT ON?
Pardon the hollering.

If you look at my post I said it was tooo cold for butyl and I would dig it out in spring. Also 791 is one of the two sealants Carolina supply's for rebuilding port lights.

Ya can't dig silicone out. Ever. Can't be done.
Just trying to keep the convo lighthearted. There's
several other threads talking about why there is
never a reason to use any silicone product on a
sailboat and I agree with that sentiment.
Again, with apologies to Stu:
Your boat, your choice.

There are reasons to use certain silicone products on a sailboat, albeit not many.

Must be nice to have a new boat - mine is over 33 years old, and those chain plates were already full of silicon when I opened them up (either from a PO or Catalina).

I have to go with the "no silicone" crowd. It's also been our experience that once it's on there it's virtually impossible to remove it and nothing else will stick to it.
