I have a 1988 Catalina 30 with a Universal 21 engine. Can someone tell me what the model number was for the original prop? The guy I bought the boat from put on a three blade that is not correct for the boat.

Thanks

First of all, don't base anything on what prop may have been on the boat when it shipped from the factory. They frequently get it wrong.

What you need to do is contact a good prop shop. They will take some information from you, primarily the number of blades, your engine HP, and the transmission reduction ratio.

They made over 6,000 Catalina 30s. There is a C30 website www.catalina30.com, plus a Yahoo or Google group. You've found this great website, but there are others relating specifically to your boat. If you find those, you'll find the answer.

These tech pages may be helpful, there were several props used by Catalina, a good prop shop should be able to help you, otherwise you could try calling the Catalina Factory or Catalina Direct says they have a computer program if you call their tech dept.

BTW I had a '94 270 that came with 2 blade prop (Perkins engine/ Hurth Trans) a friend had a 2006 that had a three blade with Yanmar/Kanzaki so things changed during production runs at Catalina.
Additionally, there is an estimator program available at the Michigan Wheel website.

I have a 1992 MKII with the M25XP, Currently the prop is a 13x12 and rarely gets the boat to 6 kts, If I run it at 3200 rpm it will hit 6 sometimes. I like to run it 2400 to 2600 that gets us going to around 5.25 to 5.5 kts.

My 1991 MKII calls for a 13x10. I couldn't pass 2800rpm and under the best conditions, was barely able to get 6 kts. I also had more prop walk than I was happy with. I changed to a 13x12 and am now able to get up to 3200rpm, with the ability to reach 6.7 kts under good conditions. There is now controllable prop walk that I am able to utilize while docking. But, no two boats are identical as no conditions are ever the same. Good Luck. I hope you find the right combination for your boat. Happy New Year.

I don't understand. Going from a 10" pitch to a 12" pitch should take MORE power yet you have 400 RPM more???
