Where did the time go? A sad day that seems like it was just yesterday.

It's quite a story. The list of missing seamen is very moving. Sad loss.

I grew up in Houghton/Hancock, on the south shore of Lake Superior. The Fritz and other big lakers would pass through the Keeweenaw Watterway in the fall. As a kid it seemed impossible that something 2 times a football field in length could be lost. How wrong we were.

We fell in love with Houghton Hancock area skiing up there. I did not realize the bridge would lift high enough to get her through there.

True, and as typical of the great lakes, with sharp nasty periods. In half the breeze and half the fetch they had, the 2 footers that we had when we left the Portage Lake shipping canal were big enough to hide us from the boat 400 yards behinds us.
