'72 Oday 22 (original interior) carpet, also bilge access

My 1972 original interior (dinette table & seats on port side) is carpeted, hard blue carpet really firmly attached with serious glue. This is on the floor in the middle and up the side walls of the cabin to the deck joint.

Is this original?

Whether original or not, any ideas on how to remove it? I'm planning to redo the interior at some point, and that will include old smelly carpet removal.

Also, if I do remove the carpet, will I find a way into the bilge that has been covered up for years? Right now I have about a 1.5" round hole in the floor under the companionway.

Thanks!

Drew

That hole in the cabin sole for bailing/checking bilge is original, the carpeting is not. O'DAY 22 cabin sole was originally just gelcoated fiberglass with a non-skid texture, sides of hull (ironically, the correct name for that is ceiling) were covered with a sort-of vinyl "burlap" covering at that vintage as far as I know.
