A HUGE source of mayhem in one-design races in breeze. You can see boats on starboard but slightly BELOW the mark get into the zone with rights and then try and 'shoot the mark' by luffing up and over the mark with ROW. A winning strategy in moderate breeze, but the waves stop the light boat in its tracks and it stalls. It looses way and slides backwards. Then a shit show results.I dunno... I think that marker has a big magnet like they use in roulette wheels.
Probably 10 knots. And 10 knots on a J24 is a hair raising experience.Wow! Near the end there was a boat with a blue spinnaker and a huge bow wave, any guesses how fast it was sailing?
Indeed. The j24 has an AVS (Angle of Vanishing Stability) of LESS THAN 90 DEGREES. They go down like stones all the time. The thing was, my instructors were so enthusiastic and jazzed by the "lesson", I never had a chance to consider we could have sunk the damn J.
Second That! We went close aboard the committee boat planning like that one time and the RC were all pointing and howling. The PRO still talks about that and that was probably 20 years ago. Made for some good entertainment.Probably 10 knots. And 10 knots on a J24 is a hair raising experience.
Indeed!Windy, but not too wavy. Seems like people had their chutes out farther than they should have, with many getting by the lee and getting pulled over. The boats at the end seem to have gotten their acts together better, keeping the boat under the spinnaker in heavy air.
OK. That looks a bit hairy as races go but the music just does not fit. That music should go with some REALLY extreme like motocross or wingsuit flying.
Indeed entertaining, either watching on video, or in person with the added bonus of the schadenfreude as you pass some boat with their spinnaker in major distress.WOW, what fun sitting in a warm house at my desk watching such chaos. I have to say though, some little part of me wishes I was there! Thanks Jackdaw, always can count on you for some entertainment!
